Toolstile documentation
On this page
Toolstile connects your agents to remote MCP servers through a managed gateway. Add a server, authorize an agent in a workspace, then choose its access. Getting started takes you through that sequence and checks the permitted tool catalog. You do not need to run a tool to complete setup.
Start with a remote MCP server
Have the provider's MCP endpoint ready. Toolstile connects to publicly reachable HTTPS servers on port 443, rather than running local MCP processes. Localhost, private-network addresses, and stdio servers cannot be connected.
In MCP connections, choose Connect an MCP and paste the endpoint. Toolstile attempts to detect the connection settings. If the server needs authentication, complete its provider sign-in or supply its bearer token.
Read the remote MCP connection guide for URL, OAuth and token setup.
Connect your agent
In Devices & agents, choose Connect an agent. Start sign-in from your agent app and approve it in your browser. Approval registers the agent and creates or reuses a device to group its connections.
Select the intended Workspace during authorization. Each authorization uses only that workspace's catalog and operation allowance. Switching the dashboard workspace does not switch an existing agent authorization.
Follow the client setup guide for your app. Client versions and available connection methods vary.
Choose what the agent can use
Adding a server and approving an agent do not grant access. A new agent starts without MCP access.
Use Access or guided setup's Configure access to list specific tools, resources and prompts, or allow all current and future capabilities. Explicit blocks and provider permissions still apply. An empty allowed list with full access off grants nothing.
For example, you can give a “coding agent” one server's tools while leaving another server unavailable. Read Permissions before choosing the scope.
Check the connection
Guided setup checks the permitted tool catalog without running a tool. Catalog checks count toward the workspace's allowance.
For an execution check, use Test tool, review the arguments, and choose Run test tool. A tool may change provider data. See Troubleshooting if a check fails.
